About Me

Well, I’m doing it again. I’m making a new blog! I’ve had quite a few different ones in the history of my time online, sadly though almost all of them devolved into guides on how to do specific linux / web based things.

I want to have an outlet I can express myself in longer form posts. I need a better outlet than random fedi posts where I vaguepost about life and interests.

For those of you who don’t know, I go by two main names online: monkey and vervet. What a lot of you probably don’t know is that I actually have a preferred name - and that’s Sylvie! I’m a 30+ year old unc transfem nerd… LIke a lot of other mf’s on the internet. Speaking of what makes me a nerd:

Interests

I have quite a few topics that interest me heavily, and those are:

  • Music
    • Smooth Jazz, Rap, RnB, and most importantly ambient drone! I do like a lot more than that, those are my tpical go to’s though.
  • Linux
    • I’ve been using linux on servers for ten years now, as for the desktop I’ve been doing that for six years. My main distros are arch and gentoo, but I’ve used a wide variety in the past.
  • Self Hosting
    • In case my fedi presence wasn’t obvious, I self host as many services as possible. I have a lot of vm’s running various things at my home connected via tailscale so I can access them anywhere from the world! Even this blog you’re reading is self hosted by me, and generated by Hugo.
  • Animals
    • Cats. Everyone loves em, I do to. I have an adorable little girl named Esmerelda who’s my entire world. You will more than likely see posts about her on here!
    • Primates. If my names online (including the url for this blog) didn’t give it away, I fucking love primates. Specifically I like chimps, orangutans, and vervet monkeys. Vervets are so cyuuuute, and I think that chimps and orangutans offer an incredible insight to humanity by how they act. I’ll likely do more detailed posts about great apes later down the road, but they are definitely my favorite animals. I’ve read a lot about their behaviors and society across multiple books, mostly by Frans de Waal but there have been others as well.
  • My Little Pony
    • What can I say, I’ve been watching that shit since it came out. I’m a big fan of cute things in general and MLP is probably the best moe that American artists have ever put out.

Conclusion

I hope you are excited to see what kind of posts I put up here - I know I am, because I have 0 plans at all for what to put up. There will likely be some journal type entries, song lyrics I come up with cause they are funny, songs I like, pony appreciation posts, info about primates, (hopefully not) guides on how to do certain tech things. Other than those, we’ll find out. I hope you’re as excited as I am to finally have a real blog on the world wide web!
